How is Internet of Things drives the future of automotive
Hello Guys,
In this blog, let me describe briefly on my views regarding the adoption, role and impact of IoT in the automotive space and how the OEMs and other players in automotive space are embracing IoT to improve their business.
Firstly let me list down some of the major disruptive trends in the automotive industry that would be the key drivers for the future:
* Shared / On-Demand Mobility
* Connected vehicles
* Autonomous vehicles
* Electric Vehicles
* Automotive Cloud
* Virtual Showrooms
* Predictive maintenance
* New business models
* New partnerships
Can OEMs Solo-Play the game to sustain and improve business?
I feel – NOT ANYMORE.
There are wide variety of expectations from the consumers which are to be addressed by the OEMs quickly and be the early adopters of latest technology trends to gain the market share.
OEMs must have different partnerships established in order to meet these demands.
Data from Vehicles – IoT brings it all :
Every Vehicle coming out of the plant now is enabled with hundreds of sensors to track, monitor and provide useful insights to the customers.
The level of useful and critical alerts/ information that could be provided depends on how much data could be collected from vehicles.
Vehicles are now self aware that could process lot of data in real time and take necessary actions seamlessly to avoid mishaps. This capability of processing the data on the vehicle itself could be related to Edge computing.
IoT and BIG data platforms which are mostly on cloud, on the other hand provide actionable business insights by analyzing the present and past vehicle data.
More strategic partnerships :
Not all Vehicle OEMs are capable of providing complete sophisticated experience to their customers. OEMs are establishing strategic partnership with many strong players to get the best experience delivered to their customers.
Few of the areas in which there could be partnerships established:
Telematics
Navigation
Infotainment
Location services
Vehicle Cloud
predictive maintenance
Vehicle analytics
Smart metering
and much more….
Cloud & IoT Platform providers role:
Cloud players ( mostly offering IoT platforms ) come into play in order to capture the IoT data, analyse and provide analytics capabilities which is key in deriving business values to the manufacturer or service providers like fleet operators.
Vehicle IoT data are collected, analyzed and also compared with the history available to derive usage patterns, provide business critical insights, improving the performance of the vehicle designs,etc.
Vehicle OEMs and their partners and customers have already started looking into many new business models by leveraging the IoT data which opened up huge opportunities for business leaders to think many innovative solutions and services to accelerate their market share and adoption.
Conclusion:
Future of Automotive seems really innovative and exciting. Vehicle users would experience brilliant automation and ease of operation & maintenance.

Calculated field in Goal Plan
Calculated fields provide a very powerful feature in Performance and Goal Management (PMGM) module.
The PMGM module comes with a set of generic goal plans in DEMO INSTANCES.
The ‘Goal Plan with Metric Table’ already has a calculated field, which auto-populates based on the value of the field provided.

Note: Make sure you Uncheck the ‘Show Active templates only’ to show ALL the Goal Plans.
Goal Plan: Goal Plan with Metric Table
In the front end (Instance), the ‘Forecast’ field is a calculated field, which auto-populates based on the values provided in the field named ‘Actual’ – Actual Percent of work done.

Backend Configuration
The goal plan can be configured via XML file, that needs to be download from the Provisioning (backend).
Figure 4: XML Coding for the calculated field – Here we are using a field called ‘Forecast’, that calculates the success rate based on the start date, end date and days to perform the task.
Note: Customers do not have Provisioning Access. Consult an SAP SuccessFactors this configuration. Goal Plan can only be configured via XML, only sections can be added from the instance via Admin center > Manage Templates (Front-end)
Linking Goal to Performance Form
The goal can then be added to the performance form and the calculated fields can be seen:

Use case
To create an Annual Evaluation form for a recruiter that is based on his/her hiring goal, for ex: improvement or maintained the hiring cycle.
The hiring cycle is defined by a score which is in turn measured by comparing the factor generated by calculating # of days and # of hires with a metric table.
Creating an Employee’s goal that aligns/ supports Strategic Goal: for ex: increasing employee engagement by defining a calculator that will calculate the run rate for a goal. Actual / (today – start date) represented in months
