Personas Day Mobile Edition

São Paulo – Brazil

Joins us to learn how to use SAP Screen Personas to create some magic and improve the user experience to people who use S/4HANA or ECC systems. And, yes, now we can do it even to tablet and smartphone users!

We will have a full day of innovation and learning using one of SAP’s best tools to radically improve the user experience on the SAP ERP systems in your organization, whether you are on S/4HANA or ECC.

In December 2017, SAP finally announced support for mobile devices through SAP Screen Personas! That means now you can easily run any transaction (*), whether standard or custom (also known as Z transaction) on tablets or smartphones.

(*) With the latest version of SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP06, any transaction can run on mobile devices, however, SAP is still validating and gradually announcing official support for transactions. You can find further details on SAP Note 2557076.

Event motivation: SAP Screen Personas is being adopted by more and more companies around the world

Have you ever heard about SAP Screen Personas? If not, it’s about time.

SAP Screen Personas has been launched in 2013 by SAP and there is a growing team located at SAP Labs in Palo Alto, California, which is continually working exclusively to improve the product and add new features. To get an idea of SAP’s speed and commitment to Screen Personas, the most recent service pack was released in December 2017 and the team is already working on the next two service packs.

If you knew Screen Personas before the release of version 3.0 and for some reason didn’t like it, please just forget and give it another try!

Today in the version 3.0, it is a totally new product, solidly based on current web technologies in the same way as SAPUI5 (Fiori). Screen Personas now also works with the SAP GUI desktop in its versions for Windows and for Java and with ABAP WebDynpro.

See below some updated metrics on SAP Screen Personas usage across the world. These metrics were shown by the SAP Screen Personas team on the most recent monthly meeting, which took place on February 21, 2018:

Innovation: So now Screen Personas runs ERP transactions on tablets and smartphones?

I have been working on Screen Personas’ customer projects since 2013 and also as a SAPUI5 developer (Fiori) since 2015. Because of this, I have done some presentations on how Screen Personas and SAPUI5 complement each other: I have presented in events like SAP Forum in São Paulo (Brazil) and some SAP Inside Track events in São Leopoldo (SAP Labs), São Paulo, Joinville (Brazil), and Barcelona (Spain).

In all these events, and also amongst all the SAP customers that I have worked with, the first question everyone asked me has always been the same: does SAP Screen Personas run on smartphones and tablets?

Until near the end of 2017, the answer to that was: No, but even then there were already countless things that could be done with it to improve the experience and make it easier for people using SAP ERP on desktops and notebooks.

But in December 2017, along with Screen Personas 3.0 SP06 launch, SAP finally announced a new technology called Slipstream Engine. With Slipstream Engine, Screen Personas “magically” gained the ability to make the SAP S/4HANA or ECC screens “responsive”. It means that now when using SAP Screen Personas, the screens can be correctly displayed and are usable through tablet and smartphones using touch interfaces.

So, yes, now you can use SAP Screen Personas to make existing ERP’s desktop transactions available to your company’s tablets and smartphones. And, also, you can make these transactions much simpler when you use the features of Screen Personas to automate the tasks your users need to manually perform every day. Finally, almost everything you build using Screen Personas will run on smartphones and tablets, and on desktops or notebooks running SAP GUI for Windows or SAP GUI for Java.

This is the current status for the SAP Screen Personas roadmap:

You can read more about the future plans for SAP Screen Personas in this Peter Spielvogel’s blog postor in pages 91-91 of the most recent SAP Fiori roadmap.

What can I expect from Personas Day event?

Personas Day is not training, but it’s like it was. Have you ever been to an SAP CodeJam event? If so, you will find that Personas Day will be very similar.

If you have not been in an SAP CodeJam yet, it is best described as a day when people get together and have access to an SAP system previously prepared with one chosen technology and be able to explore and to learn. There will be some materials to guide your exploration and also a subject matter expert available to guide the participants while they explore and learn. (See what an SAP CodeJam actually looks like)

So, here is what you’ll find at the Personas Day: you will have access to a S/4HANA system with the latest version of SAP Screen Personas so you can get to know it, have some hands-on experience and learn by doing. You will receive written instructions on how to explore the system and build some nice scenarios by yourself.

You’ll also have two SAP Screen Personas experts available to support and guide you through the day: me (Douglas Cezar) and Cristiano Hansen, from SAP Labs Latin America. We’ll show everything you need to know, so after the event, if you wish, you can go back to your company, install and start using SAP Screen Personas right away.

During the event we will show you how to:

* Install SAP Screen Personas 3.0 SP06 in your ECC or S/4HANA environment. You’ll see a brief installation demo and how simple and fast it is.

* Use the Screen Personas 3.0 SP06 administration interface, which has been greatly improved and is a very easy and powerful tool to manage all the flavors built with SAP Screen Personas.

* Use SAP Screen Personas to change and simplify SAP ERP screens, even if you are a systems analyst or a functional consultant who don’t know programming at all.

* Create new SAP Screen Personas scripts, powered by JavaScript and ABAP programming languages, so you’ll be able to build even more advanced and extremely powerful scenarios to simplify, automate and even eliminate tasks users at your organization are required to manually perform today.

* Create a new “adaptive” screen, that will automatically adapt to different devices’ screens and run on notebooks, tablet or smartphones.

* Use the new Slipstream Engine to perform existing transactions on mobile devices.

* We will also show a brief demo of SAP Screen Personas running on SAP GUI for Windows.

Get ready and bring your notebook, your tablet, and smartphone.

Let’s build and learn together with the SAP community!
